This OUM BBCP4103 assignment asks for a consultancy report of about 2,000 words. A Malaysian financial services firm with roughly 2,000 employees has introduced AI, automation and restructuring, and many long-serving staff now feel their careers have stalled or their skills are becoming outdated. You must analyse these mid-career challenges, evaluate how the organisation and its employees can respond, and design a justified mid-career development programme, supported by at least eight sources from 2020 onwards.
The purpose of this assignment is to enable learners to analyse mid-career challenges and develop an appropriate programme to support employees’ continued career development.
A Malaysian financial services organisation is reviewing how it supports employees who have reached the middle stage of their careers. You have been appointed as a consultant to assist the organisation in this review.
The organisation employs approximately 2,000 employees across various business and support functions, with a substantial number having worked for the organisation for more than ten years. In recent years it has introduced new digital technologies, increased the use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated selected work processes and restructured several job functions. These changes have altered the skills and competencies required for many existing roles and created new career opportunities in emerging areas.
Management has observed growing concerns among experienced employees. Some feel that their career progression has slowed after many years in similar roles, while others are uncertain whether their existing skills will remain relevant. Employees have also expressed concerns about limited advancement opportunities and their ability to adapt to changing job requirements. Some are considering moving into different roles within the organisation, while others appear less motivated to pursue further career development.
Although the organisation provides general training and development opportunities, it does not have a structured approach designed for employees at the middle stage of their careers. Management is concerned that this may lead to declining motivation and productivity and difficulty in retaining experienced employees. You have been asked to assess the situation and propose a mid-career development programme.
Based on the scenario above, prepare a consultancy report addressing the following:
